The Sitota Learning Center (SLC) was established in 2013 in Awassa, Ethiopia. It services children grades 1-8. There are roughly 250 students enrolled. SLC is unique because it is a private school where all the others in the area are government run schools. About half of the students are sponsored to go to school through Elpis International and Love for Ethiopia. The remaining kids are from the community and their families pay 240 birr per month (20 birr = $1). Some families pay 400 birr a month for rent, therefore school fees are a large expense. The SLC focuses on educational and spiritual development. The kids are learning English in school and are encouraged to practice when U.S. teams come to visit.
